Hissing, slowly crawling-forward electronica—IDM but not IDM, ambient but not ambient, clicks and cuts but not clicks and cuts, but something along those lines. Its roots lie in minimal techno decorated with all sorts of bells and whistles and frills; Wikipedia suggests calling it microhouse. It reminds me of Jan Jelinek’s work, which I also like very much.
Another old reason why I love electronic music comes to mind: the sound is varied, that’s why. You can’t possibly listen to the same tiresome guitars and drums in every track by rock musicians, often not even distorted with effects, even if they play different riffs and chords. I can still put up with post-rock—they at least throw in noises from field recordings.
